Career Summary:Jim Colla has been the Fire and Fuels Manager for Northwest Management, Inc.'s North Idaho ID office since April 2005. Mr. Colla is involved in burn plan preparation and implementation as well as wildland firefighting. He is also responsible for training and guiding staff in fire behavior, safety, fire suppression, smoke management and fuel assessments criteria. Other natural resource responsibilities include implementing contracts with non-industrial private forest owners, industrial clients and government agencies.
Mr. Colla's previous experience includes 17 years with the State of Idaho Department of Lands as the Idaho Forest Practices Program Director. He was responsible for statewide administration of the Idaho Forest Practices Act (FPA) through policy and procedure development and providing technical forestry best management practice guidance and support to field staff. He also developed and delivered educational and technical outreach programs aimed at improving on-the-ground practices. Mr. Colla also spent 10 years with the State of Alaska Division of Forestry. He was responsible for fire management and forestry assistance programs and supervising and directing fire and forestry staff in areas relating to forest fire prevention and suppression, dispatch, logistical support, facilities maintenance and burning/air quality regulation.
