GPS Road Inventory Services
Recent changes to the Washington State
Forest Practice Regulations require landowners to develop a Road Management
and Abatement Plan (RMAP). A road inventory is necessary to determine
priorities for these plans. The conventional method of gathering
inventory data by measuring road distances and marking feature locations
on paper maps is imprecise and cumbersome. Entering reams of data
from conventional methods is time consuming and prone to data entry errors.
Base maps showing current existing private road locations are often non-existent,
or difficult to obtain for most private landowners.
| Road Inventory with GPS is an efficient means of gathering field data and enables accurate map development of feature locations. Feature attribute data is entered in the field electronically on a data recorder that contains custom designed menus created for the specified data gathering project. The geographic locations of features (roads, culverts, bridges, erosion areas, etc.) and their associated attributes are simultaneously mapped with the GPS equipment to eliminate errors and redundancy. The collected information can be generated into a conventional map product with accompanying detailed inventory reports or exported into a GIS format and database for use on a Geographical Information System. Finished products include detailed road location maps, map generation, attribute database and road inventory reports. |
Arial photographs, precise GPS data, and existing maps are combined to accurately map your roads network inrelation to other land features. Accurate data collection gives landowners the ability to prioritize management planning activities and schedule activities in specific geographic locations. |
