Verbenone Label Information
To Order Verbenone and pick it up at Northwest Management, Inc., 1417 Orange Ave, Helena, MT, e-mail verbenone@montana.com with your name, address and phone number, and quantity of "10-Packs" or "100-Packs" you are interested in. (Note: A "10-pack" contains 10 Verbenone pouches. A "100-pack" contains 100 Verbenone pouches.) When you pick up your Verbenone, bring a check in the appropriate amount payable to: Northwest Management, Inc. (Cost: $110 per "10-pack", $1100 per "100-pack"). (Please note: Visa or Debit cards are not accepted on pick up orders).
Northwest Management, Inc. will only be open to disperse Verbenone for pickup beginning May 1, 2010, Mondays 3:00-6:00 PM and Fridays 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Verbenone
What is Verbenone?
Verbenone is a synthetic pheromone treatment that replicates the anti-aggregate pheromone Mountain Pine Beetles (MPB) emit when attacked trees are fully occupied. The pheromone repels beetles from further attack and encourages them to seek unoccupied host trees. Verbenone is considered to be non-toxic to humans, pets, birds and even the beetles themselves. (Follow packet instructions for proper use). Verbenone can be considered one tool in the for MPB protection. Other tools include tree spraying and long-term forest management treatments.
Is it Effective?
Results are highly variable. In some instances verbenone has failed to provide protection while in others verbenone has been shown to be highly effective. Some level of MPB mortality can be generally be expected. Verbenone is not recommended if more than 15% of the forest stand is already infested and the infested trees cannot be removed prior to beetle flight. Results can be improved if infested trees are removed prior to the application of verbenone. Verbenone packets should be installed during mid-June. The packets can be simply nailed or stapled to trees.
How to use it?
Individual Tree Protection
Use two 6.75-gram packets per tree. For larger trees (>24 inches diameter) use 3-4 packets. On smaller trees attach packets on north side of tree. On larger trees spread them on all sides.
Place them 10’ high if safely possible.
Area Wide Protection
Evenly distribute 30-40 pouches per acre depending on intensity of surrounding infestation.
30 pouches per acre – place on 38 foot grid, and 40 pouches per acre – 33 foot grid.
